Kununurra Arrival and Sunset Briefing
Our adventure starts in the heart of the Kimberley, Kununurra, where we meet for our first leg together at a stunning riverside spot (The Pumphouse) for our welcome dinner and adventure briefing.
As golden light spills across the Ord River, you'll get to know your fellow photographers, review the itinerary, and hear John's tips for capturing the Kimberley at its best.
Kununurra to El Questro
Start the day capturing first light behind iconic boabs towards Wyndham, followed by a lagoon so full of birdlife you honestly won't know which way to point the camera. Next we search out the Gouldian finch before travelling to El Questro for a break. Before the sun dips, we capture the vibrant sunset overlooking the Cockburn Ranges, a golden-hour dream for layered landscapes and rich tones.
Kununurra - Lake Argyle
Today we start our adventure with some time exploring Lake Argyle's reflections, capturing the vastness of the lake and the birdlife around the area, including finches and rainbow bee-eaters. After some downtime and a camera settings workshop, we capture the sunset over the ranges near Kununurra.
El Questro
Start the day with a private sunrise cruise along Chamberlain Gorge before a short soak in the natural beauty of Zebedee Springs, a lush thermal oasis tucked beneath the palms.
After some downtime we journey along the legendary Gibb River Road, including crossing and capturing the iconic Pentecost River Crossing before travelling to our sunset and astro location, a classic Kimberley scene framed by striking boab trees with dramatic ranges as a backdrop. El Questro delivers adventure and inspiration at every turn.
El Questro to Bungle Bungles Savannah Lodge
Today we depart El Questro and travel along the Great Northern Highway, winding through dramatic Kimberley terrain and vast open plains. Today is about the journey as much as the destination, with plenty of chances to stop for sweeping vistas and for birds and wildlife, including wild brumbies. By afternoon we arrive at Savannah Lodge, our base to explore the incredible Bungle Bungle Range in Purnululu National Park, and finish the day watching the sun set behind the ranges.
Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles)
Today we explore the heart of the Bungle Bungles, starting with sunrise at the surreal beehive domes of Piccaninny Creek, a landscape like no other. We'll venture into the awe-inspiring Cathedral Gorge before the crowds, where towering red walls and soft reflected light create endless opportunities for composition, followed by some down time.
For those keen, there's the option to book a scenic helicopter flight for an unforgettable aerial perspective of this ancient landscape. We'll be in touch to confirm your interest before the trip (flight at your own cost), finishing the day with a sunset over the ranges.
Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles)
Today we continue our exploration of Purnululu National Park, beginning with the dramatic narrow walls of Echidna Chasm, where light and shadow dance through the towering sandstone. This was probably the highlight of our last trip.
After some down time we head to the iconic domes for our final afternoon and sunset. This spot is magic for getting a wide variety of vistas and compositions, finishing with a bucket-list astro shot over the domes. This was one for the walls.
Return to Kununurra
Farewells and final frames. After a final morning in the wild, we make our way back to Kununurra, taking in the last glimpses of the Kimberley's vast beauty. We'll wrap up our adventure with time to reflect, share a few favourite images, and say farewell to new friends made through a shared love of photography, story, and the wild.

Their dedication and enthusiasm transformed this from a great tour into a truly exceptional one.
The Kimberley is a place that stays with you long after you leave — the light, the scale, the sense of remoteness, raw beauty, peaceful, ancient, sacred are hard to describe until you experience it firsthand. We leave with not only amazing photographs, but also wonderful memories and new friendships.
