Day 1
Kununurra Arrival & Sunset Briefing
Our adventure starts in the heart of the Kimberley Kununurra where we meet for our first leg of the adventure together at a stunning riverside spot -The Pumphouse- for our welcome dinner and adventure briefing.
As golden light spills across the Ord River, you’ll get to know your fellow photographers, review the itinerary, and hear John's tips for capturing the Kimberley at its best.
Day 2
Kununurra to El Questro
Birds, Boabs & Sunset Over the Cockburn Ranges
After breakfast, we journey toward El Questro, stopping to photograph Kimberley birdlife, iconic boabs, and striking outback vistas.
As the sun dips, we capture the vibrant colours of the Cockburn Ranges—a golden-hour dream for layered landscapes and rich tones.
We arrive at El Questro, ready for tomorrow’s adventure.
Day 3
El Questro
Today, we embark on a journey along the breathtaking Gib river road , including the iconic penticost crossing traversing the stunning Kimberley landscapes including some amazing Boab tree landmarks. also experience the incredible thermal pools of Zebedee Springs. There is stunning scenery all around the vicinity of El Questro!
Day 4
El Questro
Boabs, Crossings & Thermal Springs
Today we journey along the legendary Gibb River Road, including the iconic Pentecost River Crossing—a classic Kimberley scene framed by rugged peaks.
We'll photograph striking boab trees, dramatic landscapes, and soak in the natural beauty of Zebedee Springs, a lush thermal oasis tucked beneath the palms.
With breathtaking scenes in every direction, El Questro delivers adventure and inspiration at every turn.
Day 5
El Questro to Bungle Bungles Savannah Lodge
Epic Landscapes
We depart El Questro and travel along the Great Northern Highway, winding through dramatic Kimberley terrain and vast open plains.
Today is about the journey as much as the destination, with chances to stop for sweeping vistas and textured landscapes.
By afternoon, we arrive at Savannah Lodge, our base to explore the incredible Bungle Bungle Range in Purnululu National Park.
Day 6
Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles)
Domes, Gorges & Desert Light
Today we explore the heart of the Bungle Bungles, starting with sunrise at the surreal beehive domes of Piccaninny Creek—a landscape like no other.
We’ll venture into the awe-inspiring Cathedral Gorge before the crowds, where towering red walls and soft reflected light create endless opportunities for composition, texture, and scale.
This is a day of creative freedom, and scenes that will stay with you long after
Day 7
Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles)
Chasms, Lookouts & Aerial Views (Optional)
We continue our exploration of Purnululu National Park, beginning with the dramatic narrow walls of Echidna Chasm, where light and shadow dance through the towering sandstone.
We’ll also visit the Kungkalanayi Lookout—a stunning panoramic viewpoint perfect for golden hour shots.
For those keen, there’s the option to book a scenic helicopter flight for an unforgettable aerial perspective of this ancient landscape. We’ll be in touch to confirm your interest before the trip.
Day 8
Return to Kununurra
Farewells & Final Frames
After a final morning in the wild, we make our way back to Kununurra, taking in the last glimpses of the Kimberley’s vast beauty.
We’ll wrap up our adventure with time to reflect, share a few favourite images, and say farewell to new friends made through a shared love of photography, story, and the wild.

John Adams
With 25 years as a professional photographer John is experienced and super passionate about photography and sharing his photography skills and experiences with others.
Whether it be capturing the milky way, a thunderstorm that is literally lighting up the night sky or a crazy good sunset, John’s your man. John started Adventure Art Photography to inspire others to experience that same creative learning though photography adventures.
John lives in the Adelaide Hills with his wife Alicia and 2 sons who also enjoy there photography.
