Read the Membership Guidelines

To keep our community positive, inspiring, and helpful for everyone, here are a few simple guidelines to make sure we all get the most out of this experience.

1. Be Kind and Supportive

Photography is a journey, and we’re all at different points on the path. Celebrate each other’s wins, encourage growth, and always be respectful in your interactions.

2. Share Your Work and Your Thoughts

We’d love to see your photos and hear the stories behind them! When sharing, feel free to explain your creative choices or ask for specific feedback. It’s all about growing together!

3. Give Constructive Feedback

When commenting on someone’s work, focus on being helpful and uplifting. Highlight what you love and offer suggestions in a kind and supportive way.

4. Respect Different Styles

There’s no one “right way” to take a photo. This is a space to explore, experiment, and appreciate the amazing variety of perspectives and styles photography has to offer.

5. Keep It Positive and Safe

We want everyone to feel comfortable here. Bullying, negativity, or inappropriate content of any kind won’t be tolerated. Let’s keep this space safe and welcoming for all.

6. Stay Engaged and Curious

Ask questions, join discussions, and cheer each other on. The more you participate, the more you’ll grow and the more you’ll inspire others.

7. No Self-Promotion Without Permission

We’re here to learn and connect, not to sell or advertise. If you’d like to share something promotional, please check with us first.

8. Celebrate Progress

Big or small, every step forward is worth celebrating. Whether it’s mastering a new technique, capturing a great shot, or simply trying something new, share your victories with us!

9. Be Open to Learning

Every photo has a story, and every member has something to teach. Stay curious, embrace feedback, and never stop exploring your potential.

10. Have Fun!

This group is about creativity, growth, and connection. Enjoy the process, experiment fearlessly, and don’t be afraid to share your passion with us.

Introduce yourself in the community

Please jump into the Adventure Art Photography Community, start a new post and introduce yourself:

— Where are you from?

— What are your current photography goals?

— What kind of photography excites you the most?

We look forward to hearing from you and growing together in our photography.

Chatting in the Community

Community chat and channels

Most of the conversation occurs in the Community Chat #General.

On desktop select Communities from the left hand menu and then select the Adventure Art Photography Community.

On the App you can select Communities at the top of the dashboard page or from the Community icon (second from the left) on the bottom menu.

There is also a #Support, help and ideas channel that you can use if you have any questions about the Community or the App. If you see a glitch that we need to fix or if there’s something you’d like to see in the community, let us know.

Additional channels eg. #Photography tips and #Favourite Locations are also available.

Switching channels in the AdventurePhoto App

Accessing the different channels on the App is easy if you follow these steps. In the AdventurePhoto App:

1.  Select the Community icon on the bottom left of the screen.

2.  Tap on the hamburger menu (ie. the three black lines) in the very top left of the screen.

3.  Select the channel you wish to view from the list shown on the pop-out menu.

4.  To receive a notification about a new post in this channel, you can 'follow' the channel by clicking on the little + symbol next to the channel name on the pop-out menu.

5.  Remember, you may need to switch back to the #General channel when you want to post your photos.

Giving feedback online

We want our community to be a fun and supportive place to grow as photographers. When giving feedback, keep it kind, helpful, and encouraging! Your feedback can make a big difference!

1. Start with the Positives

Begin by sharing what you like about the photo. Everyone loves hearing what they did well!

2. Be Specific

Talk about details like lighting, composition, focus, or colours. Avoid general comments like “It’s good” or “I don’t like it.”

3. Focus on the Photo, Not the Photographer

Comment on the image itself, not the person who made it. Keep your feedback kind and respectful.

4. Share Helpful Suggestions

If you see something that could be improved, offer a friendly tip or idea to try next time. eg. “This shot is great! Maybe adding a little more light would make it pop even more.”

5. Respect Different Styles

Everyone has their own creative vision. Even if it’s not your style, try to appreciate their unique approach.

6. Ask Questions

Show interest in their process. Questions like, “What inspired this shot?” or “What settings did you use?” are great conversation starters.

7. Keep It Balanced

Pair suggestions with encouragement. eg. “Your composition is really strong! You could try experimenting with different angles to make it even better.”

8. Adapt to Skill Levels

Beginners may appreciate simpler feedback, while more experienced photographers might enjoy more technical advice.

9. Be Brief and Friendly

Stick to the main points and keep your tone light and supportive.

10. Encourage Growth

Remind each other that photography is about learning, experimenting, and having fun! Let’s keep this group a positive space where everyone feels inspired to share and improve.

How do I post a comment or my photos in the community?

The #General channel in the Community is the place where most of the conversation takes place. To post in the community, look for the ‘Create a new post…’ box at the very top of the page.

When you click on that box, it will ask you ‘What’s on your mind?’ This is where you place your comment.

If you wish to attach a photo or video, you can select Photo Gallery or Video Gallery below where you’ve written your comment. In some instances you may need to scroll down a little to see these. You can then select your photo or video to upload.

Once composed, hit CREATE to publish your post.

#wildshotwednesday

What is #wildshotwednesday?

Each Wednesday we encourage you to post in the Community Chat, one or more photos that you have taken on that day or recently or maybe even edited for a different look.

Do I have to post wildlife pictures?

Many of our members love to publish wildlife shots, but this is not a requirement.

We’d love to see your work and watch your development as you get out and practice regularly.

Please remember to comment and encourage others as we learn and develop new skills together

Monthly LIVE sessions

What are the monthly LIVE sessions all about?

The monthly LIVE sessions are a great way to get to know John and the other members. They are generally held on the first or second Thursday of each month.

John hosts the LIVE sessions, reviewing the theme and highlighting some of the member’s theme related contributions during the past month.

Often a specialist guest speaker will join the group to speak on a particular topic. The topic may be related to the theme for the upcoming month or highlights from a recent tour.

The theme for the coming month is also announced and tips and tricks provided to help you with the challenges set for the month.

The LIVEs are held on Zoom and it’s up to you how much you participate.

How do I know when the LIVE sessions will be held?

You can look ahead to see when the LIVE sessions will be held by selecting Appointments & Events on the Account menu in the AdventurePhoto App. The session will appear as an entry in the calendar for the month.

If on desktop, you can find the events listed under…

Appointments and Events

What if I can't make the scheduled LIVE session?

Don’t worry, each session is recorded and then published on the Community Chat and in the LIVE Replays folder under Digital Products. This folder can be found on the Dashboard of the AdventurePhoto App or ….. on desktop.

Learning resources

What learning resources are available?

Each month a downloadable PDF information sheet is published to help you with special tips and tricks for taking images that fit with the monthly theme.

From time to time, Quick Win videos are also published to provide you with short ‘snackable’ pieces of information on a particular topic.

In addition, you will find a #Photography tips channel in the Community Chat section. Theme related tips and tricks are posted on this channel regularly to give you short snippets of helpful information.

Where can I find the information sheets?

The monthly information sheet(s) are published in the Digital Products folder that can be found on the dashboard of the AdventurePhoto App and also on the lefthand menu on desktop.

When you access the document it will automatically download for you to view it.

About us

Adventure Art Photography was created for photographers who feel most alive when they’re outdoors — whether that’s hiking up a trail at sunrise, wandering the coastline, or just noticing the magic in everyday scenes. What started as a personal love for photography and adventure has grown into a warm, welcoming community where people come together to learn, share, and get inspired.
We believe photography should feel fun, not overwhelming or overly technical. That’s why we keep things simple, practical, and encouraging. Our goal is to help you build confidence with your camera, develop your creative eye, and enjoy the process along the way.
Whether you’re brand new to photography or have been shooting for years, you’ll find a place here, with people who share your curiosity, your love for the outdoors, and your desire to keep learning.
